Learn Some Fun and Silly Words That Will Make You and Your Friends Laugh!

    4 Mins Read

Let’s have some word fun! Learning is always a good thing. Whether you are learning onsite CPR to save lives, discovering various insects in nature, or discovering fun and silly words, you’ll get a new focus on life.

Check out the fun and silly words below! Share them with your friends and use them in your everyday conversations.

Flibbertigibbet (flib-er-tee-jib-it) – A silly, flighty, or overly talkative person. My little sister is such a flibbertigibbet, always bouncing from one thing to another!

Bumfuzzle – To confuse or perplex someone. That magic trick totally bumfuzzled me!

Cattywampus (cat-ee-wom-pus) – Crooked, askew, or diagonally positioned. After the earthquake, all the pictures were hanging cattywampus on the wall.

Gobbledygook (gob-ul-dee-gook) – Nonsense language or confusing jargon. The instruction manual was full of gobbledygook that nobody could understand.

Hullabaloo (hul-uh-buh-loo) – A loud noise, uproar, or fuss about something. There was such a hullabaloo when the ice cream truck arrived!

Kerfuffle – A commotion or fuss, often about something minor. The dog caused quite a kerfuffle when he ran through the house with muddy paws.

Lollygag – To spend time aimlessly or dawdle around. Stop lollygagging and finish your homework!

Nincompoop – A foolish or silly person. Don’t be a nincompoop and forget your lunch again.

Shenanigans (shuh-nan-ih-gans) – Mischievous or playful behavior, tricks. I know you’re up to shenanigans in there!

Widdershins (wid-er-shinz) – In a direction contrary to the sun’s course; counterclockwise. The witch stirred her cauldron widdershins, which means backward or counterclockwise.

Brouhaha (brew-ha-ha) – An uproar or excited reaction about something. What’s all this brouhaha about a missing cookie?

Higgledy-piggledy – In a confused, disorderly manner. My toys are all higgledy-piggledy in my toy box.

Skedaddle – To leave or run away quickly. We’d better skedaddle before it starts raining!

Whippersnapper – A young person who is cheeky or presumptuous. Listen here, you little whippersnapper!

Bamboozle – To trick or deceive someone. He tried to bamboozle me into trading my best Pokémon card.

Discombobulated (dis-kum-bob-yoo-lay-tid) – Confused and disconcerted. I felt so discombobulated after spinning around ten times.

Hubbub – A busy, noisy situation with lots of activity. There’s always such a hubbub at recess.

Snollygoster (snol-ee-gos-ter) – A shrewd, unprincipled person (especially a politician). That snollygoster tried to cheat at checkers!

Willy-nilly – In a disorganized or unplanned way; whether you want to or not. She threw her clothes willy-nilly all over the room.

Dillydally – To waste time through aimless wandering or indecision. We don’t have time to dillydally if we want to catch the movie!

Piffle – Nonsense or trivial talk. That excuse is just pure piffle!

Whopperjawed (wop-er-jawd) – Crooked or out of alignment. The picture frame is all whopperjawed on the wall.

Codswallop (kodz-wol-up) – Nonsense or drivel. You expect me to believe that codswallop about aliens eating your homework?

Flapdoodle – Foolish talk or nonsense. Stop speaking such flapdoodle and tell me the truth!

Snickersnee (snik-er-snee) – A large knife, or to fight with knives (but kids can use it to mean any playful “sword fight”). The pirates battled with their cardboard snickersnees!

Collywobbles (kol-ee-wob-ulz) – Butterflies in your stomach or a feeling of anxiety. I got the collywobbles right before my school presentation.

Malarkey (muh-lar-kee) – Meaningless talk or insincere behavior. That’s a bunch of malarkey, and you know it!

Hornswoggle – To bamboozle or cheat someone. Don’t try to hornswoggle me out of my dessert!

Poppycock – Senseless talk or nonsense. Your theory about invisible hamsters is complete poppycock!

Zigzag – A line or course having sharp turns in alternating directions. The bee zigzagged through the garden from flower to flower.

Gibberish (jib-er-ish) – Unintelligible or meaningless talk. The baby was babbling in gibberish that only she could understand.

Hoosegow (hoo-suh-gow) – A jail or prison (slang). The sheriff threatened to throw the mischievous cowboy in the hoosegow!

Mollycoddle (mol-ee-kod-ul) – To treat someone with excessive care or kindness; to pamper. Stop mollycoddling me, I can tie my own shoes!

Rigmarole (rig-muh-role) – A lengthy and complicated procedure or set of instructions. What’s all this rigmarole about getting ready for bed?

Sozzled – Drunk or very confused (kids can use it to mean confused or silly). After riding the spinning teacups, I felt totally sozzled!

Skulduggery (skull-dug-er-ee) – Underhanded or sneaky behavior; trickery. I suspect some skulduggery is going on with my missing cookies!

Ballyhoo (bal-ee-hoo) – Extravagant publicity or fuss. There was a great deal of excitement (ballyhoo)  about the new playground opening!

Canoodle (kuh-noo-dul) – To kiss and cuddle amorously. Eww, those teenagers are canoodling on the park bench!

Folderol (fol-duh-rol) – Trivial or nonsensical fuss. Let’s skip all the folderol and get straight to opening presents!

Ninny – A foolish or weak person. Only a ninny would forget an umbrella on a rainy day like this!

So, what words do you like? Some of the words have quite a few syllables. You could even use a word like canoodle to help you perform CPR – saying the word repeatedly while making chest compressions. Happy Learning!
